MHS Activities
At Manhattan High School, we believe there is a place for everyone to get involved. We offer a variety of student activities; providing an opportunity to make new friends, develop and practice leadership skills, extend their knowledge and understanding of curricular learning, and make a strong connection to their school and community. As we welcome in a new school year, I hope that each student will seek out opportunities that enable them to experience the full and rich culture of Manhattan High School through our extra-curricular activities program.
Lisa Julian – Assistant Principal/Activities Director
Activities Eligibility
In order to participate in the activities at MHS, any required form(s) must be completed prior to the first day of the student’s activity. Students must also be enrolled in and attending a minimum of at least five (5) new subjects (those not previously passed) of unit weight, having passed at least five new subjects the previous semester. Enrolling in summer school does not regain a student’s eligibility. Students who violate school disciplinary rules and procedures must realize they may jeopardize their status. Further participation will be determined after careful review of the particular situation by the necessary authorities, including the building principal, activities director, and the sponsor.
*Interest Groups are not included on the Activities list. For Interest Group information, contact the Activities Director.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) and USD 383 requires that each student athlete have a signed physical on file prior to athletic participation each school year. All forms are available in the Athletic Office at S-102 at MHS, the main office of MHS, or available for print below.
- 2025-2026 Athletic Newsletter and Physical Packet
- 2025-2026 Athletic Newsletter and Physical Packet (Spanish)
USD 383 also requires a completed athletic packet to be turned in with the physical and on file prior to any athletic participation. Both the completed KSHSAA physical form and the athletic packet must be filled out and signed by both the student athlete and the parent/guardian before being turned in together to the MHS Athletic Office, MHS S-102. Athletic packets will also be available in the Athletic Office or the main offices of MHS. Physical forms and athletic packets must be turned in prior to the first day of practice.
Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA)
KSHSAA is a private/non-profit association of accredited member schools, whose purpose is to administer a program of interscholastic activities, festivals, clinics and contests among member schools. The KSHSAA offers state championships in eleven boys and eleven girls' sports, and ten additional championships in music activities, debate, speech and drama, and scholars bowl. Of particular importance are efforts to elevate standards of good sportsmanship and to encourage growth of good citizenship among students and spectators.
Each September, the KSHSAA collects student enrollment data from member high schools for students in their sophomore, junior and senior classes. This number is listed in a descending list of all high schools. The largest 32 schools become 6A, the next largest 32 become 5A, the next 64 become 4A, 3A, and 2A respectively and the remaining schools become class 1A. New classifications are established each school year in all activities except for football, which uses a two-year cycle and a different counting method.
