3. Recognition and Reward
   • Students who meet the minimum requirements of the program earn a red cord and recognition at their graduation commencement ceremony.
   • Students also earn the opportunity to apply for the Distinguished Service Graduate Scholarship their senior year.
   • Can be added to resumes until you get actual work experience.

A minimum overall total of at least 100-approved service hours must be documented on the student’s x2vol account.

• Of that 100-hours, at least 25-approved hours must be inservice to the school and/or school district.
• The remaining 75-approved hours can be any combination of school and/or community service.

Other requirements

• All service hours must be done outside of the school day.
•  Service hours must be submitted online within the semester they were done. These due dates are posted on the website and parent square.
• The graduating class of the current year must submit hours at least 3-weeks prior to graduation.  This date is posted on the website and parent square at the beginning of each year.

Students may start submitting hours starting the summer after their 8th grade year.

Service hours that DO NOT count:

• Service hours that are done for pay
• Service hours that are done for family members
• Service hours that are court-ordered
• Job Shadowing
• Service hours that are done as part of a class requirement

Service hours done in coordination through a school-sponsored club or activity (ie - NHS, Football Fireworks Stand, STUCO, MHS Band, etc) DO count.

Some common examples include:

• Helping teachers with creating bulletin boards or cleaning/organizing their rooms before or after school.
• Prom Decorating
• After School Tutoring
• Building a set, working tech, making costumes, for school productions.
• After-school programs at elementary schools
• Working concessions at MHS sporting events and activities
• Service projects done through STUCO or a school-sponsored club, activity, or sport

SERVICE HOURS DONE AS PART OF A CLASS REQUIREMENT DO NOT COUNT.

Community service hours can come from any service project done in coordination with other programs such as 4H, youth groups, etc.

Common Examples include (but are not limited to):

• Shoveling a neighbor's snow-covered drive or raking a neighbor's leaves
• Coaching youth activities (without pay)
• Public Library volunteer programs
• Volunteering at civic centers
• Food & clothing drives
• 4H or Scout service projects
• Helping with vacation bible school
• Mission Trips
• ZOO Crew

The online platform used for submitting and tracking service hours is x2vol.  Volunteer hours served starting the day after you finish 8th grade can be submitted to x2vol.
