- Founded in 1958, HOBY's mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation. HOBY programs provide students selected by their schools to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences. HOBY, is a four-day leadership seminar for high school sophomores where over 170 students from across the state will participate in activities designed to encourage personal development and foster leadership skills that can be brought back to their schools and communities. Manhattan High has the opportunity to select three (3) Sophomores to attend the HOBY summer leadership seminar May 29th- June 1st, 2025 on the Kansas State University campus. Since we must select these students, the following must be completed and submitted to Mrs. Hoeme via email (rachaelh@usd383.org) by 7:30am on Monday, December 2nd, 2024, so we can select the students to attend:
1. A resume outlining your high school activities, awards, and honors as well as community service.
2. A typed, double spaced essay on the topic outlined below. The essay should be between 250-300 words in length.
Essay Topic: Describe the most rewarding and challenging aspect of being a leader at Manhattan High School and in your community. There will also be an informational meeting next Wednesday, November 6th during flex time. IF you are wanting to attend, please sign up using this link: HOBY Seminar Please note: The $315 fee to attend HOBY and transportation to HOBY is the responsibility of the students selected. The money will be due right after we select the recipients in early December. Scholarships for this leadership seminar could be available in a variety of levels. Please contact Mrs. Hoeme for more specific information regarding availability.
Freshman:
- Advisory Topic This Week: Xello – Exploring Career Factors
- It is really important we know when students are not in attendance at MHS. Freshmen parents can contact Gina in the freshmen office via phone (785-587-2100 Ext 8005), email (ginag@usd383.org) or ParentSquare message Gina Graham. It is also helpful to contact her ahead of time if there is an appointment, so she can get them a pass out of class with plenty of time for them to sign out. Before students leave our building, they must be excused by an adult listed in their contacts in I.C. and students must sign out at Gina's desk, so we know exactly when they leave. This is for safety reasons if there is an emergency in our building, we have to know who is here.
