Counselors' Corner - 11/8/24
MHS Counselors’ Corner
All Grade Levels:
- Students Taking Edgenuity Courses: if you have questions regarding the material, each Edgenuity course has a “Chat with Tutor” button available if you need assistance. On-Demand Tutors are available the following days and times:
- Monday-Friday 7am – 9pm
- Saturday 8am – 6:30pm
- Sunday 5:30pm – 9pm
Seniors:
- Advisory Topic This Week: Character Strong – Power and Influence
- Check-in with Ms. Bonnette or Mr. Duntz to ensure you are on track to graduate!!!
- Financial Aid Night: Tuesday, Dec 3rd in Rezac Auditorium at 7pm. A rep from K-State financial aid will be here to talk about the FAFSA, loans, grants, and scholarships.
- Class of 2025 Picture: November 20th during Advisory, North Gym
- Cap and Gown Order: Jostens orders are completed through their online store. The essential graduation regalia (cap, gown, tassel, and stole) are available at this link: MHS Cap & Gown Essentials. For those who want to order announcements packages as well - you can find those at this link: MHS Graduation Packages. For families who want to trade in a cap & gown, you must call our Jostens representative at 785-843-2967. They will collect your current cap & gown when they deliver the new one.
- Senior Portraits for Yearbook: Seniors who want to replace their Warner Portraits school photo in the 2025 Blue M yearbook with a studio portrait should use this form English Version: English Form. Spanish Version: Spanish Form
Portraits are due by Dec. 20, 2024. Photos should be at least 2x3 inches in physical size and 300 ppi/dpi minimum. They can be color or black and white and should be a head-and-shoulders pose (or we will crop them to that dimension). They must be vertical portraits containing no props and must be adhere to school policies in terms of contents and dress code. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY PHOTOS ON RAILROAD TRACKS, IN STREETS OR ROADS, OR CONTAINING ANY OTHER ILLEGAL CONTENTS. Also if you haven't ordered your yearbook yet, go to Yearbook Order Center and use school code 10905. You can also reserve your senior PDA ad at that location. The price is $79 until Dec. 31, 2024.
Juniors:

Sophomores:
- Advisory Topic This Week: Character Strong – Mental Health Foundations Pt. 1
- Founded in 1958, HOBY programs provide students selected by their schools to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning and motivation-building experiences. HOBY, a four-day leadership seminar for high school sophomores, where students from across the state will participate in activities designed to encourage personal development and foster leadership skills.
Manhattan High will select three (3) Sophomores to attend the HOBY summer leadership seminar May 29th- June 1st, 2025 on the Kansas State University campus. Since we must select these students, the following must be completed and submitted to Mrs. Hoeme via email (rachaelh@usd383.org) by 7:30am on Monday, December 2nd, 2024:
1. A resume outlining your high school activities, awards, and honors as well as community service.
2. A typed, double spaced essay on the topic outlined below. The essay should be between 250-300 words in length.
Essay Topic: Describe the most rewarding and challenging aspect of being a leader at Manhattan High School and in your community. There will also be an informational meeting next Wednesday, November 6th during flex time. IF you are wanting to attend, please sign up using this link: HOBY Sign-Up
Please note: The $315 fee to attend HOBY and transportation to HOBY is the responsibility of the students selected. The money will be due right after we select the recipients in early December. Scholarships for this leadership seminar could be available in a variety of levels. Please contact Mrs. Hoeme for more specific information regarding availability.
